IT infrastructure planning

Planning work for businesses that have outgrown the way their systems were first set up. We assess what is in place today, check it against the workload it now carries, and set out the growth path with indicative costs.

What the assessment covers

Current state

  • Servers, workstations and network equipment in use
  • Cloud services and the accounts that own them
  • Storage volumes, backup jobs and retention windows
  • Software versions and end-of-support dates

Capacity and redundancy

  • Headroom measured against peak usage, not averages
  • Single points of failure identified and ranked
  • Backup restore tested rather than assumed
  • Recovery time expectations agreed with you

Growth path

  • What the next two to three years of growth requires
  • Which changes can wait and which cannot
  • Sequencing that avoids a second migration later
  • Ownership and responsibility for each stage

Budget bands

  • Indicative cost bands for each stage of the plan
  • Third-party costs shown separately from our fee
  • Assumptions listed so the bands can be re-checked
  • No figures quoted for work that has not been scoped

How a planning engagement is scoped

Planning work is quoted once the size and shape of the estate is understood, because a two-server office and a multi-site operation are not the same piece of work and should not be priced as though they were.

Where an estate is simple, a review is often enough and a full plan is unnecessary. Where it is not, the assessment is delivered in stages so that the first stage stands on its own. You are never asked to commit to the whole plan before seeing what it recommends.
